Prior to working for the Federal Government I was at:

As a developer I was mainly working on Front End code with a bit of server code due to it being standard at the time to make posts to the server in order to do any processing.

Executive Dashboard

This dashboard was a proof of concept.

When building dashboards, the first step is to identify the grain and level of detail of your data. I found this dataset to be low granularity which meant it wasn't well suited for high interactivity (drilling down into the data and slicing it).

However it made up for this by effectively allowing the user to view summaries of data across many Departments across Western Australia. Swapping between Departments needed to be quick to allow the user to Compare performance in this metric.

Working with data for many years in this way has taught me the importance of a good data model underlying any application.
